Stefan Banz
Works with installation, photography, painting and video. Since 1993 he has exposed in solo and group exhibitions in international art institutions, museums and galleries, such as Migros Museum Zurich, württembergischer Kunstverein Stuttgart, Kunstmuseum Lucerne, museum centrepasquart Biel, Kunsthaus Zurich, mamco Geneva, ok – centrum für gegenwartskunst Linz, Kunstmuseum Liechtenstein, walker art center minneapolis, walter-gropius-bau Berlin, galerie urs meile beijing-lucerne, ars futura galerie, zurich, espai lucas valencia, bloom gallery Amsterdam. Since 2004 he is working together with Caroline Bachmann under the name of bachmann/banz
Stefan Banz was born in Sursee and grew up in Menznau, Switzerland. He studied art history, german literature and literary criticism at the University of Zurich. In 1989 he co-founded the Kunsthalle Luzern and served as its artistic director until 1993. In 2000 he received the manor art prize, as well as the recognition award from the city of Lucerne. In 2005 he was the curator for the swiss pavilion at the 51st biennale in venice. He has written plays, novels, theoretical texts and critical essays on Jacques Derrida, Muhammad Ali, Bruce Nauman, Frank Zappa, Marcel Duchamp, Friedrich Dürrenmatt and many others. He was also a member of the swiss federal art committee from 2001 to 2007. He lives and works since 2006 in Cully, Switzerland
